What do you see out your window?

Alleys are colorful. Alleys are magical. Alleys are home.

And so it begins. The task: Make an online, intricate, interesting, interactive, non-chronological musical in four weeks. And document the whole process. How hard could it be?

I am in grad school at the University of Wolverhampton, and one of my tasks within the course is to create a digital event. It can be literally anything. Which for me, was a slight issue. Anything?! Give me boundaries! Give me parameters! Give me constraints!

In swimming through too many ideas, I decided to go all the way back to the first idea I ever had for a musical theatre piece. The Alley is a song cycle where each song gives a different perspective via the windows in this location-less alley.

None of the songs are connected. You'll be able to choose your own way through the material, which is starting with just five or six songs. But my hope is that the project will live beyond my grade in this grad school project. And hey - people may move into, or out of, or through The Alley over time. Songs may get added, or subtracted. You'll have to keep checking in to see who's hanging around the Alley in any given week.

That's the plan. We are recording and filming and animating (she's multi-disciplinary, folks), and I'll share some pieces as we go. Or maybe I already have...?

Follow me to find out more about The Alley, out officially on December 30th!

AND: Tell me what you see through YOUR window. Who knows, maybe it will end up in our Alley.....
